The objective of our research is to better understand how the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory airway diseases is affected by environmental and genetic factors. Current investigations focus on the innate immune response and barrier function of the airway epithelium. Using the model system Drosophila melanogaster, we are primarily interested in identifying genes and molecular pathways whose dysregulations impair disease pathogenesis and are therefore ideal targets for new therapeutic interventions.
