BBRS confidants

The BBRS confidants are postdocs or young group leaders from Borstel, who serve as contact point for PhD candidates in case of personal or PhD-related problems that can't be addressed to or solved with the candidates' own supervisor. Examples are power abuse, sexual harassment or unrespectful behaviour from the supervisors themselves or other members from the group. Mental health problems can also be discussed. All conversations are kept confidential, and the confidants only mediate in case that is the candidate’s wish.

The confidants are happy to make time to listen, boost your motivation and offer support wherever possible!

After two years, the PhD candidates are invited by the confidants for a personal non-mandatory consultation to discuss the options of contract prolongation or any other issue that might be of importance for the candidates at this stage of their doctorate.

Two BBRS confidants are elected every two years by the PhD candidates during the general assembly meeting. BBRS confidants are active members of the Advisory Board and have eligibility to vote.

An annual conference hosted by PhDs of the BBRS

After the great success of the NDI3 conference in Research Centre Borstel in 2023, we are pleased to invite researchers and professionals in the field of immunology and infection to participate in the upcoming NDI3 conference, which will take place on November 11th, 2024.

The NDI3 is a scientific conference standing for New Developments in Immunology, Inflammation, and Infection with a 45-year history. It is organized by motivated second-year PhD students of the Borstel Biomedical Research School (BBRS) who aim to bring together ambitious scientists to share their research and have inspiring discussions. The conference is aimed at scientists at all levels interested in immunology, inflammation, and infection. These topics will be combined in a modern agenda, including presentations by international keynote speakers, various interesting talks, a poster session, and meeting companies. The wide-ranging scientific program is rounded off by a great dinner and many networking opportunities. We believe that these opportunities will be invaluable for you to connect with your peers, exchange ideas, and build lasting relationships.

Further information about our program, registration, and amazing keynote speakers this year will be released soon, so stay tuned for updates. We look forward to your participation!

Venue: Manor House, Research Center Borstel, Parkallee 1, 23845 Borstel (Sülfeld), Germany

This year's organization team consists of Wiebke Gauda, Kai Guo, Annemarie Hintz-Rüter, Liisa Knipp, Afsaneh Mehrpouyan, Janina Nandy and Simon Pennuttis. We are all PhD candidates, highly motivated to host a conference in a productive, welcoming atmosphere where all participants can gain the most up-to-date information about progress in a broad spectrum within the field of immunology, inflammation, and infection biology.
