6th shipment on its way: The FZB supports partner university in Ukraine with medicines and technical aids
Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has been under attack by the army of the Russian Federation. The war has brought suffering and misery to parts of this country in our European neighborhood. Millions of Ukrainians have left their homes as a result of the war. According to conservative figures from the UNHCR, more than 10,000 civilians and between 30,000 and 70,000 soldiers (there are no reliable official figures) from Ukraine have so far fallen victim to the Russian war of aggression.
We learn about it every day in the media and it is slowly becoming a habit. "We must not allow this war to be accepted as 'normality'," says Professor Christoph Lange, Medical Director of the Borstel Research Center. Together with the Rotary Clubs in Bargteheide and Storman, Lange is collecting private donations to support colleagues at the partner university V.N. Karazin National University in Kharkiv, with over €100,000 raised so far.
The 6th consignment of urgently needed medicines and technical aids for the biomedical laboratories of the tuberculosis hospital in Kharkiv has now been sent on its way to eastern Ukraine. The purchase of the medicines was once again made possible by a donation from the Rotary Club Bargteheide. "We are aware that our contributions are just a drop in the ocean," says Professor Lange. With this support, the research center is making a small contribution to maintaining patient care in Kharkiv. Everyone can do more than just watch.
