RoGer-TB: Romanian-German Symposium on “Tuberculosis and Migration”

What impact does the war in Ukraine have on the spread of tuberculosis in Germany and Europe? How can tuberculosis be end-stigmatized in migrants in order to detect and treat affected persons in time?

To discuss these and other challenges and questions, a three-day conference on "TB - Screening and Migration in Europe" will be held from 29th September to 01st October 2022 in Bucharest, Romania. The  conference is organized by the Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Lung Center, in collaboration with the Marius Nasta Institute, Bucharest, as part of the project "Cross-Border Migration and Tuberculosis between Romania and Germany - RoGer-TB". The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Health and is part of the Global Health Protection Programme.

Tuberculosis is one of the most fatal infectious diseases worldwide. In Germany, more than 4,000 people contracted tuberculosis in 2020. Outbreaks among Romanian migrant workers play an important role and continue to pose challenges to health care in Germany. Since the Russian Federation's attack on Ukraine, the dimension of tuberculosis among war refugees has been added.

The conference is aimed at an international audience of experts. There will be presentations on war and migration, the tuberculosis situation among migrants, and the management of screening and prevention measures from numerous European countries. Updates on diagnostics, therapy and therapy monitoring will also be presented. Fifty speakers from more than 15 countries are expected to attend.
