We are the lung research center of the Leibniz Association. Our main focus: Common diseases such as asthma, allergies and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as infection-related inflammation of the lungs, in particular tuberculosis (TB).
The program area is dedicated to research into asthma, COPD and allergies, as these are among the most common chronic diseases and therefore cause an enormous burden for both patients and healthcare systems.
The Infections program area is dedicated to researching and combating bacterial infectious diseases of the lung with a focus on tuberculosis. The aim is to improve the control and treatment of this disease.
Start of study: First participants enrolled in detecTb study
The first two participants in the new detecTb study at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) were enrolled this week. The study is a joint cooperation project between the Clinical Infectious Disease Research Group of the Leibniz Lung Centre Borstel and the I Medical Clinic and Polyclinic of the UKE at the Hamburg-Lübeck-Borstel-Riems site of the German Centre for Infection Research (DZIF). Update Allergologie: Interdisziplinärer Austausch im Herrenhaus des Forschungszentrums Borstel
Bereits zum 37. Mal trafen sich führende Expertinnen und Experten im Rahmen des renommierten „Allergie-Kolloquiums“ am Forschungszentrum Borstel, Leibniz Lungenzentrum, um sich über die aktuellen Erkenntnisse und Entwicklungen auf dem Gebiet der Allergologie auszutauschen. Ein Highlight der Veranstaltung war auch in diesem Jahr die Verleihung des Kanert-Preises für Allergieforschung.
