Silke Meiners Bioblurb

Silke Meiners was trained as a biochemist and molecular biologist at the universities of Bonn (Germany), Norwich (GB), and Berlin, where she obtained her PhD degree. In her postdoc training she started to explore the main protein degradation machinery of the cell – the proteasome – as a therapeutic target in cardiovascular diseases at the Charité in Berlin. In 2010, Silke Meiners joined the Comprehensive Pneumology Center at the Helmholtz Center Munich (Germany) as an independent research group leader. She there began to investigate regulation of proteostasis and proteasome function in lung diseases to develop novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of chronic lung diseases. In September 2021, Silke Meiners was appointed a Leibniz professorship at the Christian-Albrechts-University (CAU) in Kiel and is heading a research group dedicated to immunoproteasome research at the Research Center Borstel. Silke Meiners is also principal investigator of the Precision Medicine in Inflammation (PMI) Excellence cluster at CAU and the German Center for Lung Research DZL. She is co-director of the DZL Academy, editor of the European Respiratory Journal and an active fellow of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) where she currently serves as the ERS conference and seminars director.
